The North American Commission for Partnership in Mission has developed a programme, “A Basic Introduction to the Redemptorists,” to assist in the Orientation and Introduction to the Redemptorists for staff and volunteers of Redemptorist sites of mission.
The ad hoc committee that developed this resource included Toni Dunning (Denver), Francis Gargani, C.Ss.R. (Baltimore), and Anne Walsh (Canada), with input from all members of the Partners in Mission Secretariat.
The programme consists of five sessions, each lasting approximately forty-five minutes. This includes time for for questions and sharing. The programme is very flexible, and leaders can choose to use any or all of the five sessions in the way that best meets their needs. The approach is very user-friendly, and all materials can be edited easily. Each session includes a “script” for the leader or facilitator, a PowerPoint slide deck, and relevant handouts for participants to take home.
At the heart of the programme are five thoughtfully designed sessions that introduce participants to the life, mission, and global presence of the Redemptorists. Beginning with the story of Saint Alphonsus Liguori and the origins of the Congregation, the sessions gradually expand to explore the structure of the Redemptorist world, the richness of its spirituality, and the enduring witness of its saints and blessed. Participants are invited to engage not only with the history of the Congregation, but also with the spiritual pillars that continue to guide its mission today, including a deeper appreciation of devotions such as Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
The programme also highlights the wide range of Redemptorist apostolates and the Congregation’s presence across the globe, helping participants see how this shared mission is lived out in diverse contexts. Each session is supported by accessible materials—including facilitator guides, presentations, and take-home resources—making it easy to adapt for local needs. Taken together, the sessions offer a welcoming and practical introduction that invites staff and volunteers alike to see their own role within the broader Redemptorist mission of proclaiming the Gospel, especially to the most abandoned.
The members of the Redemptorist North American Secretariat for Partners in Mission hope that this new resource will meet a need that has been expressed in many areas, and will prove to be helpful to units and missionary sites as we build with employees and volunteers a sense of how, together, we fulfill our call to proclaim the Gospel ever anew to all, particularly the most abandoned.
