What We Do
St. Alphonsus was ahead of his time in the life of the Catholic Church. As a
Doctor of the Church, his writings and compositions remain to this day, a source
of
inspiration. St. Alphonsus was bishop, a respected pastor and shepherd of the
people, an artist, a composer and brilliant writer, and had a special place in
his heart for the poor and the most abandoned.
With St. Alphonsus as our example, Redemptorists in Canada can be found working in ministry through programs and parishes from St. John's, Newfoundland to Vancouver, British Columbia. We establish missionary centres to respond to the real needs of the Canadian Church in a local situation and context. In each place, through a variety of ministries, chaplaincies, Youth and Young Adult Ministry, parish ministry and inner-city ministry, we strive to live and proclaim the redeeming Christ among "the most abandoned." We do this as an apostolic community in collaboration with the world, the local church and the laity.
The following links will take you to see the various ministries that we are involved in both in the setting of the institutional Church, but also in the world at large.
Some of these ministries we have been doing for over one hundred years. In others we are just beginning.
We try, in whatever we do, to be open to the needs that we see in our society and in the Church.
